Report released - Willing to Work: inquiry into employment discrimination against older people and people with disability
The Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) was asked to undertake an inquiry to examine practices, attitudes and Commonwealth laws that deny or diminish equal participation in employment of older Australians and Australians with disability, that report has now been released. click here for more information and a copy of the report

The benefits of inclusive and diverse workforce

Manningham City Council Metro Access Program Project supported by the Victorian State Government and Belonging Matters have recently produced some fantastic videos showcasing the benefits of inclusive and diverse workforce.

‘The Salvo’ - The story of Manningham resident Warren O’Brien an officer in the Salvation Army, since his early teenage years and along with his family, has been a dedicated parishioner at the Salvation Army Church in Box Hill.

‘That’s a wrap’ - The story of David Holowko who has worked part-time in the fresh produce section of Woolworths for six years.

‘Going Above and Beyond’ - The story of Manningham resident Warren O’Brien who has been a valued volunteer at the Victorian Police Museum for the last 9 years.

Disability Employment Conference -10th to the 11th August of 2016 Crown Promenade, Melbourne

Australia’s Disability Employment Conference is Australasia’s premier conference for managers, aspiring managers, practitioners, and academics working in or with the Disability Employment Services sector. This year’s conference will examine and explore the future of the DES programme. The conference will be guided by three themes. These themes are individualisation, digitalisation and marketisation.

The conference welcomes anyone with an interest in employment assistance for people with disability including:

Australian Network on Disability
A not-for-profit organisation resourced by its members to support people with a disability in aspects of business, including employment

National Disability Recruitment Coordinator
Federally funded to support larger employers (>100 staff) and Disability Employment Services to employ people with a disability. Current contract with WorkFocus

National Disability Coordination Officer program
Federally funded to improve the transition of people with a disability into tertiary education and employment. There are 31 NDCOs across Australia and seven in Victoria.

People with a Disability (PWD) Australia
A national peak disability rights and advocacy organisation. Campaigning for 20,000 jobs per year for people with disability over the next 10 years.

Australian Federation of Disability Organisations
Peak body for disability organisations. AFDO are hosting the National Disability Employment Advocacy Project.

Disability Employment Services (DES)
Federally contracted to support the employment of people with a disability. There are 224 providers of the DES services operating across nearly 2000 sites around Australia.

Office for Disability, Department of Health and Human Services, Victorian State Government
The Office’s mandate is to put disability on the agenda across the Victorian State Government, to improve the lives of people with a disability and to help address barriers to community inclusion.

Local Learning and Employment Networks (LLENs)
Focus on young people disengaged or at risk of disengaging from education and training and who are not in employment.

National Disability Services
